A native of the Chicago area, Sharon Wright began her art studies in 1967 at Northern Illinois University, where she earned the degree of Bachelor of Science in Art Education. She left the university in 1970 to study ceramics for two years at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Jemappes, Belgium, returning in 1981 to complete her degree program with a concentration in fiber. Studies with Dr. M. Shahzaman greatly influenced her decision to pursue fiber art. After working as a public school teacher, she continued her education taking master’s level classes in fiber once again under the direction of Dr. Shahzaman at NIU.

Sharon currently divides her time between studios in Illinois and Wisconsin.
